The Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP) is a recognized computer-delivered English language assessment test.
CELPIP offers a unique one-sitting testing experience. The computer-delivered Speaking component allows test takers to demonstrate their English proficiency without the possible confounding effects associated with human interaction as used in other testing systems.
CELPIP uses Canadian English as spoken in Canada for language proficiency for immigration into Canada or for Canadian citizenship.
The CELPIP-General Test provides Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and other users with an accurate measurement of English language proficiency in common usage situations.
The CELPIP-General Test is a complete English language testing program that assesses general levels of functional competency. The test consists of the following components: Listening (47 minutes), Reading (60 minutes), Writing (53 minutes) and Speaking (20 minutes).
CELPIP Total test time: 180 minutes (3 hours)
The CELPIP format and scoring is cross-referenced to the 12 level Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) system.
The CELPIP results can be used by:
•IRCC requiring proof of English proficiency of applicants for immigration to Canada
• applicants for immigration to Canada to fulfill language requirements
•professional associations and employers requiring proof of English language proficiency
